Amazon Web Services (AWS) has only been operating in Canada since December 2016, but it already seems to own the space.
eStruxture Data Centers Inc., a network and cloud-neutral data centre operator based in Montreal, has announced that its customers can now connect their privately owned and managed IT infrastructure within the eStruxture data centre to AWS via AWS Direct Connect.
AWS Direct Connect uses industry standard 802.1q VLANs to allow customers to easily establish a dedicated network connection between AWS and their on-premise private office cloud or data centre.
By taking advantage of this secure network connection, eStruxture customers now have the flexibility to connect to AWS while also benefitting from a more consistent network experience, increased bandwidth throughput, and lower overall networking costs.
Todd Coleman, president of eStruxture, expresses his excitement about the partnership in a Feb. 7 press release.
“As Canadian and international enterprise customers look to connect their on premise and cloud applications, our goal is to provide them with simple and efficient connectivity options, which are backed by our reliable colocation infrastructure,” he says. “This offering will enable current and new customers to maximize their IT investments within their colocated or managed spaces while capturing the flexibility of AWS.”
Strahan McCarten, senior vice president of product and strategy at eStruxture, says the company’s goal has always been to create a facility where customers can choose the best design and IT architecture for their needs, and this partnership helps accomplish that.
“For those customers who are using AWS, access to AWS Direct Connect allows them to combine their on-premises solutions with reliable, secure and consistent access to the wide variety and constantly innovating services of AWS,” he adds.
AWS opened a Direct Connect location in Toronto in June 2017 to support its Canada Central AWS region.
