Apple received somewhere between 2.4 and 2.6 million iPad 2 units from suppliers in March 2011, a report has claimed.
Given that you can’t get an iPad 2 for love nor money at the moment, with the UK and US online Apple Stores still quoting a shipping time of two to three weeks, it’s a good bet that the vast majority of these have been sold.
The report from Digitimes says that sources at upstream touch panel suppliers provided the figures, and estimates that Apple will take delivery of between 4 and 4.3 million units per month going forward.
According to the report, sales of the iPad 2 are occurring at a faster rate than the original iPad, which was launched in April 2010.
Some analysts estimated that the iPad 2 sold a million units on its first weekend on sale in the US. In the UK, online orders for the iPad 2 were already being quoted with a two to three week shipping time before the iPad 2 officially went on sale at 1am on Friday 25 March. This slipped to three to four weeks by the Saturday.
