Japanese technology company Fujitsu Ltd., said its latest receiver circuit doubles the communication speed between CPUs potentially boosting the performance of servers, cloud computing systems and supercomputers.
At the 2014 Symposia on VLSI Technology and Circuits in Hawaii, the company said the circuit can attain speeds of 50 Gigabits per second.
Hisakatsu Yamaguchi, research manager in the Server technology Lab at Fujitsu, said the technology was planned for “high-end products” but it is possible to integrate the technology into consumer devices as well.
Fujitsu plans to use the technology in interfaces of CPUs and optical modules by April 2017.
Fujitsu said the technology uses decision feedback equalizers circuits to make up for the degradation of incoming signals. With this method, Fujitsu was able to increase the operating frequency of the circuit.
There are other 56Gbps circuits in the market, such as the 4X FDR InfiniBand. But Fujitsu said its technology achieves 50Gbps with a single receiver circuit while InfiniBand uses four 14Gbps circuits.
