Acer enters thin client market

Acer today will be announcing its entering the thin client market, with with entry-level commercial products named the Veriton N Series.

The new thin and rich clients provide manageability and energy-efficiency in a secure, smaller form factor for virtual environments, the company claims. These systems are designed for small and medium businesses, call centres and customers in education, financial services, healthcare and government.

The Acer Veriton N Series focuses on increasing the hardware utilization and consolidation, while managing data and hardware assets, monitor system access and enforce security policies and procedures.

Michael O’Beirne, Acer senior director, commercial product marketing, said our new thin client line will help organizations meet today’s reality of ever shrinking budgets by simplifying IT without compromising on business deliverables. The Acer N Series are easy to configure, maintain and manage, while reducing the overall cost of ownership.

Acer‘s new thin and rich clients offer customers an operating system that includes Devon IT’s embedded, Linux-based thin client DeTOS 7.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows 7/8. They also feature Devon IT Echo Management software, Microsoft RemoteFX 3D virtual adapter, Citrix HDX high-definition desktop virtualization and VMware View.

The Acer N series also provides wireless connectivity with optional integrated WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n. And, the new Acer Veriton N2110G Series is an x86-based machine, while the Acer Veriton N2010G Series are ultra compact ARM-based thin clients. All three series provide multi-tasking processing power and security tools as well as industrial compliance. Acer’s thin clients will be available through Acer resellers with prices starting at $239.
