PC maker Acer is expanding its CXI line of Chromeboxes with the release of two higher-end models featuring fourth generation Intel Core i3 4030U dual-core processors.
The CXI-i34GKM and CXI-i38GKM models feature 4 and 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM respectively and retail in the US for $349.99 and $399.99.
Other features include a 0.6 litre VESA mountable chassis, 2K and 4K display support through HDMI and DisplayPort, Google Management Console, built-in Google virus protection and Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2), a 16GB Solid State Drive, Bluetooth 4.0 and Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports including two with power off charging, and support for up to a 32GB SD card.
In comparison, the 2014 CXI model ran off of an Intel Celeron 2957U with 2 or 4 GB of RAM.
In management and security features, the new CXI machines offer Citrix Certification, Google’s online Management Console is subscription-based, and can be used to deploy apps, updates, factory state resetting through a “Powerwash” feature, data encryption and verified boot through the Chromebox’s TPM 1.2 chip
According to the company, the device is targeted at classrooms, libraries, as well as and small to medium businesses.
“The Chromebox CXI provides enough speed for fueling multiple projects simultaneously and leveraging HD video and applications,” the company said in a statement.
The systems will be bundled with a VESA mount kit and a Google approved USB keyboard and mouse.
