Symantec secures profit rise as revenues fall

Chris Mellor recaps Symantec’s second quarter for 2010.

“For its second 2010 quarter revenues were $1.47 billion; they were $1.52 billion a year ago, while net income was $150 million, compared to $126 million previously. The $24 million profit increase was down mostly to cost-cutting. Sales and marketing expense was $597 million but is now $576 million, and R&D costs were $219 million and have reduced to $210 million.”

Apple to ‘vigorously’ fight Nokia patent pout

Rik Myslewski says that according to Cupertino’s SEC 10-K annual report filing on Tuesday, Apple will “vigorously” defend itself against Nokia’s patent infringement suit.

“Last Thursday, Nokia filed suit against Apple in the Delaware US District Court, alleging infringement of 10 US patents. In its SEC filing, Apple – aka ‘The Company’ – states that ‘The Company’s response to the complaint is not yet due,’ but that ‘The Company intends to defend the case vigorously.’”

Dennis Howlett shares SAP’s third quarter revenue results.

“SAP’s Q3 results demonstrate continuing softening in the enterprise software sales market. Revenues were down year on year by 31 per cent to $787 millillion from $1.144 billion in the same period 2008. Software and software related service revenues declined three per cent or $85 million year on year. In a pre-prepared statement, the company said it is tracking software and software related service revenues down six to eight per cent for the full year.”
