Google and Walmart are teaming up to take on Amazon, SpaceX has some nifty new space suits, and Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 8.
From Reddit – Look out Amazon – Walmart and Google are coming for ya! Google and Walmart have teamed up to offer voice-first e-commerce in the U.S, meaning you will now be able to purchase walmart’s products through Google Assistant on Google Home devices. This is similar to how Amazon users can purchase from the Amazon store via Alexa-powered devices. Google has been bringing the fight to Amazon through its Google Express service, but until now only offered products from Costco and Target. Walmart will be hundreds of thousands of items to this service. This partnership is expected to go live in late-September in the US. There is currently no word on when or if it will be extended to Canada.
From Facebook – Elon Musk took to Instagram this morning to post a picture of the space suits that SpaceX will be using. The sci-fi looking suit features a low-weight design helmet, and is less bulky than the traditional NASA spacewalk suits, as it is more comparable to a flight suit. Musk indicated in his post that this isn’t just a mockup saying that “it actually works” and that it was already tested to double vacuum pressure. While it may still be some time until SpaceX actually takes a human into space, at least now we know that those folks will look snazzy while they do it.
And from Google Trends – Samsung is back with its Galaxy Note line, unveiling the Galaxy Note 8 yesterday at an event in New York City. Highlights for the new device include the bezel-less infinity display that Samsung debuted with the Galaxy S8 earlier this year and dual rear cameras. Samsung says that this is the first smartphone to include two rear cameras, and that it will give users more variety with their shots. For example, you could take a close-up shot from one lens, and the other could take a wide-angle shot that shows the entire background. Let’s just hope that this time around the Galaxy Note is little less firey.
