Backup solutions vendor Acronis is taking its personal backup and recovery solution to the cloud, and is enabling full image backups – rather than simply file by file – for the first time.
According to Acronis, previously its Acronis True Image solution only allowed for individual files to be backed-up to online services, and a full image could only be backed-up to attached storage. Now, with Acronis True Image 2014, full system image backups can be automatically backed up to the Acronis Cloud, as well as to locally-attached storage, if desired.
Acronis is pitching the solution as a disaster recovery solution as well; files can be restored from the cloud if a PC is stolen, damaged or lost to a natural disaster. Will the full system image saved everything can be restored, including settings and bookmarks as well as applications and files.
The 2014 solution comes with full and incremental disk image backup both locally and to the Acronis Cloud, individual file backup both locally and to the cloud, incremental restore form the cloud, 5GB of Acronis Cloud Storage, and full Windows 8 support. A premium edition adds additional features, including support for Dynamic Disks and Windows Pre-Installation environments.
“Before we added image backups to the cloud, users could only back up individual files and folders to online services. Now, they can back up their entire system,” said Nat Maple, senior vice-president of consumer, OEM and online at Acronis, in a statement. “As the first to market with this innovative technology, Acronis is setting the bar for a new standard of personal backup and recovery.”
Available now, the regular offering is US$49.99 and the premium offering is US$79.99. The cloud storage can be bumped-up to 50GB for US$29.99/year.
