Bell Aliant CEO Karen Sheriff will be switching roles over the new year to become the new president and chief executive officer of Toronto-based Q9 Networks Inc., the company has announced.
Internet and data centre service provider Q9 is bringing in Sheriff, who is set to retire at the end of this year from her current position in Nova Scotia, at the beginning of 2015.
“We’re delighted that a leader of such exceptional calibre will be taking Q9 forward,” said Bogdan Cenanovic, Chair of Q9 Networks in an online statement. “Karen knows the data business and she knows how to make great companies even better.”
Q9’s outgoing CEO Paul Sharpe had been the founder and president of the company since 1995, but only took over the role of CEO in April. He will remain through early 2015 to help with the transition, the statement added. While Halifax-based Bell Aliant became a fully integrated subsidiary of Bell Canada Enterprises, Inc. (BCE) under a deal signed late October, Q9 is partly owned by the Canadian telecom giant.
Q9 currently operates 14 data centres across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia and services approximately 400 customers in both public and private sectors, according to the company’s website.
