Returning to the Top Newsmaker list is open source champion Luc Villeneuve, the country leader for Canada at Red Hat.
Villeneuve contributed an article to The Globe and Mail this past July, for its Leadership Lab section. He wrote about the importance of gender diversity in the tech sector workforce, and committed to ensuring that women are well represented as Red Hat increases its own employee base. He shared that he encouraged his own daughter to pursue a career in the IT sector, and that at 23, she is now finding success in a technology sales role.
Late in the year we appreciated Villeneuve’s contribution to our Community Question of the Month feature at CDN. When we asked about password security best practices, he shared that his strategy is to use an acronym representing a long phrase or sentence, or even a random string of words. He also chimed in on the busy back-to-school season in September, saying he enjoyed Red Hat’s flexible work culture that allows 25 per cent of its employee base to work remotely. On the topic of whether smartphone makers should “kill the headphone jack,” he said his preference was that they keep the 3.5mm headphone jack because wireless headphones require batteries and deliver inferior audio quality.lol
We look forward to hearing more from Villeneuve in 2018.
