CDN’s #25 Newsmaker of the Year – John Husband

In 2017, Softchoice returned to the top of CDN’s Top 100 Solution Providers list in a tie with CDW Canada; saw longtime president, CEO, and mainstay on the Top 25 Newsmakers list Dave MacDonald retire; and added a 25,000 square-foot addition to its campus in downtown Toronto.

John Husband, channel lead in Canada for the Toronto-based solution provider, looked to hybrid cloud in Canada as an opportunity for Softchoice to take advantage of. He pointed to its growing popularity, especially in mid-sized to large enterprises who are looking for a combination of on-premises and public cloud.

Considering that Softchoice is the number one Microsoft Azure cloud offering reseller in North America, and that Microsoft Canada opened two data centres in Canada in 2016, it’s no wonder that in 2017 Softchoice benefited as more and more Canadian organizations turned to the cloud.

When speaking with CDN last spring, Husband added that the solution provider is looking to ‘help customers with that hybrid cloud solution in any way we can’. Husband joined Softchoice in 2014 from LG Canada where he was the vice president of sales for their B2B division. His previous experience includes senior sales roles at Xerox, Dell, and Canon.

With its new headquarters addition, Softchoice is taking a new approach to its office design by not incorporating any offices at all. The new office space is designed to encourage collaboration between employees, and includes all kinds of experimental spaces as part of a converted baking factory in Toronto’s Liberty Village neighbourhood.
