The Canadian channel simply could not ignore an impressive 242,000 sq.ft. data centre facility from Equinix in 2015.
Equinix president of the Americas Karl Strohmeyer presented the company’s first Canadian data centre located in Toronto called TR2 as a unique go-to-market opportunity for solution providers.
One of the mantras of Equinix is that the channel does not have to build its data centre of the future it should, instead, rent it from Equinix. Strohmeyer said that Equinix ensured that this data centre would align to the needs of the partners in every way. For example, it has a lounge area, showers, and a snack area and these places are in the TR2 to accommodate technicians from channel partners who might have to stay overnight. Again, it`s a small aspect of the TR2, but something extra that Equinix thought off.
Equinix TR2 is also offering hosted Internet Exchange, Ethernet Exchange and Cloud Exchange connectivity to Telecom Hotel along with more than 106,000 sq. ft. of collocation space. The TR2 data centre can also decrease latency.
TR2 is Canadian but in the grand scheme of things it’s also global for Equinix. Strohmeyer said European customers who have issues with holding data in the U.S. because of the Patriot Act now have a very good option with the Toronto data centre TR2.
Strohmeyer added that channel partners will play an important role in this global strategy. He said the Equinix channel team will be contacting solution providers around the world and letting them know about the new TR2 offering. This will include Canadian solution providers who might have European customers or customers with European offices.
