Cogeco Data Services is going big in Quebec, with constriction underway of a new 100,000 square foot data centre on the island of Montreal.
Based in Toronto, Cogeco is a provider of fully managed hybrid ICT solutions. Its new Tier 3 Montreal facility, located in Kirkland, will provide Montreal-area customers with advanced colocation, managed IT and cloud services that Cogeco promises are secure, redundant, scalable and monitored 24/7/365 by the company.
“We are very excited to add another advanced facility to our growing data centre footprint,” said Tony Ciciretto, president and CEO, Cogeco Data Services and Peer 1 Hosting, in a statement. “The new centre is specifically designed to meet an increasing demand in the Montreal region for reliable and secure ICT solutions.”
According to Cogeco, abundant and reliable power and a cool climate for most of the year make Montreal an ideal location for the new data centre, which will complement the 1,500 route kilometres of fibre optic cable Cogeco Data Services already owns and operates on the island.
“Cogeco Data Services’ addition of a new ultramodern data centre underlines our unwavering commitment to providing the region’s businesses with access to world-class ICT services that facilitate and improve their operations and service delivery each day,” said Ciciretto. “This new facility, combined with our wholly-owned network and cloud infrastructure highlights our commitment to continued growth in the Quebec market.”
When it opens this spring, the Montreal data centre will be Cogeco’s fifth, joining three locations in the Toronto area and one in Barrie. It will also double Cogeco’s total data centre capacity to over 200,000 square feet, which it says is the equivalent of 12 NHL sized ice surfaces.
