Samsung’s smart watch just got smarter. The vendor has announced that its Galaxy Gear is now compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note II.
The Galaxy Gear is designed to work in conjunction with and complement a user’s compatible Samsung phone. Samsung is marketing it as a wearable companion device, with the ability to get a quick glance preview of received messages, a voice memo tool to capture a quick thought or idea, and an auto look tool if your phone gets too far away from you.
“The Galaxy Gear has launched Samsung to the forefront of wearable technology by delivering true innovation beyond what anyone else in the industry currently offers,” said Paul Brannen, senior vice-president, enterprise and mobile solutions at Samsung Canada, in a statement. “Canadians want technology that helps make their lives easier and more enjoyable, which is why we’re excited to extend the compatibility of the Galaxy Gear to our growing Galaxy family of devices.”
The Galaxy Gear features a 1.63” Super AMOLED display and is powered by an 800 MHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. It’s Bluetooth 4.0 compatible, and is equipped with an accelerometer and a gyroscope. Some of the featured apps available include an Evernote watch app, a MyFitnessPal exercise and nutrition tracker, and TripIt.
The suggested starting price is $329.99.
