Compugen launches the next generation of the Green4Good program

Steve Glover of Compugen Finance is the creator of Green4Good

Compugen Finance Inc.’s innovative Green4Good program is taking on new partners.

The CDN Top 100 solution provider announced the next generation of its Green4Good program called the Shape The Future and it will feature new partnerships with Aeroplan, Microsoft and the United Way.

According to Steve Glover, Compugen Finance’s senior vice president and the creator of the program, Shape The Future over-arching theme is to promote digital literacy. The new updated program is designed to raise funds to help provide computers for disadvantaged or low income families across Canada.

Green4Good has been expanded and now has two sub-programs under its umbrella. In partnership with Rogers and Microsoft Green4Good launched Connected For Success that delivers subsidized computers loaded with special educational software from Microsoft to low income families. Rogers will offer Internet service at $9.99 per month. Connected For Success has been rolled out to more than 53,000 families in the Toronto Community Housing and will be offered to other low income families in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland later this year.

“The logic is to be able to provide the technology to the low income families that United Way’s charities pre-screen and hopefully introduce a telco down the road. That way we can affect more families in a much more accelerated manner,” Glover said.

Glover is also asking the channel to donate some or all of their Aeroplan points.

The launch of Shape The Future with Aeroplan plans to solicit customers to donate points to pay for computers that will go into community centres to help promote digital literacy.

“We continue to promote re-use by providing refurbished technology. Our resale versus recycle rate continues in the 90 per cent range meaning that 90 per cent of the corporate end-of-first-life assets that we receive get reused not recycled,” he added.

Since the inception of the Green4Good program at Compugen, the initiative has brought the Bank of Montreal on board both in Canada and in the U.S. market. Glover is also lobbying TD Canada Trust to enable the program to access IT assets in the U.S.
