Having built a consulting practice over the past two decades on the use of its own in-house software productivity tools, SQL Power Group has released the prototype for its next-generation data warehouse productivity tool.
Called the Power Architect, the channel can download this software free of charge from http://www.sqlpower.ca/page/architect. SQL Power’s past products have stemmed from the use of their own custom-designed software.
Sam Selim, president of SQL Power, said the reason the company is making its newest tool available to the public for free is wants worldwide recognition.
“We have always enjoyed great productivity using our own data warehousing tools, but years of quiet successes have not garnered worldwide recognition. Now we hope to enhance our international reputation as experts in our field by sharing our secret weapon with our peers,” he said.
The Power Architect is geared specifically for data warehouse architects. The tool allows users to reverse engineer existing databases through a drag-and-drop operation; allows data profiling of source databases; and can auto-generate ETL metadata. The tool has the ability to take snapshots of database structures. The licensing scheme allows individuals and students to use the tool free of charge, and professional users are allowed a 90-day trial period before committing to the $495/seat.
