Dell today announced the next entry in its lineup of virtual workstations, one that it says is the industry’s first ever ISV-certified solution.
The Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse is targeted at workflows found in such industries as media, entertainment, engineering, exploration and energy.
“Organizations that depend on graphics-intensive, workstation-class workloads are increasingly demanding mobility and flexibility to enable workers to achieve secure, need-based access to data and mission-critical applications wherever they are located,” the company said in a statement.
The Precision Appliance combines the Dell Precision Rack R7910 workstation with an NVIDIA Quadro and GRID GPU option, Teradici PCoIP remote workstation technology and VMware virtualization software, and offers access for “up to three users per appliance in dedicated GPU mode or four to eight users per appliance in shared GPU mode,” the company said.
Users can also connect through a variety of ways such as Dell Wyse dual or quad display thin and zero clients, desktops, laptops or Precision tower and mobile workstations.
Dell said it worked closely with the ISV community to validate and certify their software on the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse. The goal is to make the appliance easier to deploy, by incorporating certified configurations for enterprise applications such as Siemens PLM software.
The company said that users should expect similar experiences using ISV apps running on the Precision Appliance compared to a traditional fixed workstation.
Canadian availability is slated for May.
