Santa Clara, CA – Dell this week unveiled the next iteration of vWorkspace, a software-based solution that allows for desktop virtualization (VDI) through a browser and leaves no data behind on the client machine.
At the first ever Dell Cloud Client-Computing Reviewers’ Day in Santa Clara, Calif., the company announced version 8.5 of vWorkspace, a brand Dell acquired in 2012. Now, it is being pushed as one of several options under the Wyse umbrella of hardware and software solutions that customers can turn to to virtualize their environment.
A key new feature of vWorkspace 8.5 is the inclusion of HTML5, which allows windows applications to be accessed from any browser-capable device without the requirement for client software installation, according to Dell executives at the event.
According to the company’s official press release, it also allows for secure access from Chrome OS devices such as Chromebooks. Lastly, the solution aims to facilitate BYOD by reducing what IT professionals must manage on a user’s personal device.
“With this release, Dell is the only solutions provider that offers organizations an end-to-end solution that includes VDI connection broker software, with simplicity, scalability, performance, and one point of contact for support,” said the company’s official statement. “Part of Dell’s growing desktop and application virtualization portfolio, Wyse vWorkspace 8.5 software enables customers to realize the efficiency and productivity benefits of desktop virtualization with the agility to scale into a VDI environment.”
According to Dell executives, cloud client-computing is the company’s fastest growing business segment. vWorkspace 8.5 is set to be December 9.
