Epson upgrades 13×19-inch printer

Epson Canada has enhanced its lineup of Ultra Hi-Definition ink jet printers with the introduction of the 13-inch wide Epson Stylus Photo 1400.

Sharing the same technology as the Epson Stylus Photo R260 and R380, including Claria ink and DX5 MicroPiezo print heads, the Stylus Photo 1400 is engineered to produce photographic prints up to 13”x 19” that enable photo enthusiasts to realize the full potential of today’s newer DSLRs and high-end digital point-and-shoot cameras.

With an estimated street price of $499 CDN, the new photo printer is also designed to deliver a combination of image quality, high-speed performance and value in the 13”x 19” category.
Epson said the Claria Ultra Hi-Definition ink makes smudge, scratch, water, and fade resistant photos that are rated to resist fading for up to 98 years under glass and 200 years in an album.

The printer uses six high capacity ink cartridges that provide a convenient way to change out only one colour cartridge at a time.

It is said to deliver professional quality (not draft quality) 8”x 10” photos in as fast as 108 seconds and 11”x 14” photos in as fast as 173 seconds.

It can also print directly on ink jet printable CDs and DVDs. Customized designs can be created quickly and simply with the included Epson Print CD software and printed out in the convenient front-loading CD tray. CDs and DVDs print over the entire surface area from the center to the edge for a clean and professional look, eliminating the need for messy labels that can warp and potentially damage CD/DVD drives.

The Stylus Photo 1400 also comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Epson said the Stylus Photo 1400 prints almost three times faster than its predecessor, the Stylus Photo 1280, which did not include CD/DVD printing.
