One of the more unusual but popular wines in Canada is Fat Bastard.
Fat Bastard is produced by Gabriel Meffre Winery in Gigondas, France and it’s represented in Canada by Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd.
The company has released a Facebook App titled Fat Bastard Yourself. The app allows Facebook users to create comical personalized portraits, announcing what kind of bastard they are. Kate Watson, Fat Bastard Wines Canadian marketing manager, said this new application represents what Fat Bastard wine is all about, living large and having fun.
By uploading a picture, Facebook users can choose their favourite Fat Bastard wines and add a tagline to their portrait. Currently, numerous Facebook users have used the app, adding taglines such as “Awesome Bastard”, “Lucky Bastard”, “Classical Bastard”, and “Glorious Bastard”. You can view some of these creations by clicking here.
Watson added that while this app offers a comical outlet for fans of Fat Bastard wine to express themselves, it also shows that Fat Bastard wine is a diverse product that serves a diverse customer base. The company wants people know that Fat Bastard’s reach goes beyond typical, traditional French wine. The app is an extension of the “What kind of Bastard are you?” marketing campaign in the fall of 2010. Its aim is to not only highlight the brand, but to display that Fat Bastard is a wine for everyone to enjoy; a French wine for every kind.
Created in the late 1990s, the Fat Bastard quickly became a reference for fun but today the brand sells more than 4 million bottles per year in over 16 countries.
