Fujitsu recently introduced the ScanSnap iX1500 as its new flagship scanner designed for businesses and SOHO users.
ScanSnap iX1500 supports day-to-day business documents formats including business cards, receipts, and envelopes, double-sided prints, and colored photos. The scanner automatically adjusts the output image according to the size of the input, eliminating the need to readjust for paper size with every scan.
For non-standard sizes like prints and envelopes, the ScanSnap iX1500 offers manual mode which lets users adjust the feeder to fit the document at hand. Up to 30 different profiles can be programmed to suit different paper sizes.
With a 30 page-per-minute scanning rate, the ScanSnap iX1500 is suitable for high-volume workflow. Its software automatically corrects skewed documents and removes minor imperfections before delivering them to the receiver.
Nearly all of the scanner’s functions can be controlled through its 4.3″ LCD touchscreen. Users can email scanned results directly to a device connected to the same Wi-Fi network, or upload them to cloud platforms like OneDrive and Intuit Quickbooks Online without an intermediate PC.
The new ScanSnap Home software enables the scanner to recognized and lift information from the scanned document. Using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), the ScanSnap iX1500 is capable of directly converting the document into Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and searchable PDF formats. Every ScanSnap iX1500 comes with four ScanSnap Home user licenses (PC) and 1 Nuance user license (Mac).
OCR can operate either locally or through the Fujitsu ScanSnap cloud. On the note of privacy and security, Steve Oblin, Fujitsu senior marketing manager, told CDN that the ScanSnap cloud is an intermediary step between the client and the designated storage location. Documents scanned through the ScanSnap cloud are retained for two weeks in case of maintenance on the other end and permanently deleted afterward.
“With a growing number of users saving documents to cloud storage services such as OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox, ScanSnap iX1500’s cloud integration allows resellers to offer a simple scan to cloud solution, helping customers facilitate disaster recovery and document archiving,” Oblin told CDN.
The Fujitsu ScanSnap ix1500 is available today through Amazon, ATS Systems, and others for $665.
