Samsung unveils Android-equipped Galaxy Spica i5700
Engadget
Chris Ziegler writes about Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Spica Android-based phone.
“Samsung’s latest Android-powered set (Galaxy Spica) clocks in at 13.2mm thick and comes equipped with a 3.5mm jack (which, frankly, every smartphone in the world should be including at this point), an 800MHz core (presumably the same as the Moment’s), and an Android first: built-in DivX support. This one appears to be a no-frills Google Experience device considering the number of times that ‘Google’ is mentioned in Samsung’s press release, but for some Android connoisseurs, the purest, unskinned look and feel is preferred.”
Netbooks dead? Not when sales are up 264 percent
The Loop
Larry Dignan offers his thoughts on the future of netbooks.
“So what’s the future of the netbook? It’s way too predictable to envision lightweight notebooks replacing the netbooks. Netbook 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 are likely to have different form factors. Perhaps the Droid and the iPhone are really your netbooks. Perhaps Apple redefines the netbook category with a tablet. Perhaps people keep buying the current versions of netbooks. Netbooks will hang around and probably thrive because people like second and third computing devices. The form factor may change, but the market niche isn’t going anywhere.”
