RIM Tackles the Personal/Business Split

Irwin Lazar writes about Research in Motion’s new version of its Blackberry Enterprise Server to help separate business and personal use on Blackberry smartphones.
“BES 5.0.2, in conjunction with smartphone RIM OS v6 offers separation of business data and personal data, allowing a company to remotely wipe or lock a phone without affecting the personal data. Apple released a similar feature for separating business data in OS 4 in June. We expect to see similar offerings from Android and Windows Mobile vendors before long.”
Intel claims ‘best quarter ever’

Rik Myslewski recaps Intel’s second quarter financial earning results, which were announced on Monday.
“Intel announced its second-quarter earnings (Monday), with numbers that add up to what chief Paul Otellini called ‘the best quarter in the company’s 42-year history.’ The mega-chipmaker’s revenue for the quarter was $10.8 billion and 51 cents per share. According to the Wall Street Journal, the consensus of top moneymen was that Chipzilla was going to weigh in at $10.25 billion and 43 cents per share.”

Iain Marlow describes a new application for the Blackberry called BlackBerry Protect.
“BlackBerry Protect allows you to re-locate the crucial smart phone or, failing that, to protect or self-destruct the information you’ve left on it. It works like this. Say you lose your BlackBerry in your house and don’t remember where you put it: this app is for that. It allows you to log into the app’s Web portal and set off a ‘loud ring’ function so you can find it again — and simultaneously alarm your spouse or your pet or your kid or whoever happens to be sitting on it or near it.”
