HP creates a new product division

HP lately has been very good at creating new business units and today’s announcement only continues company CEO Meg Whitman’s re-building process. The hardware giant introduced HP Converged Systems and this new organization will be focused on accelerating the next generation of Converged Infrastructure. This new unit brings together dedicated resources to deliver purpose-built technology for social, cloud, mobile and big data solutions.

The HP Converged Systems business unit follows the combination of Printing and Personal Systems Group and the company believes this move will extend the portfolio of converged application appliances that fuse infrastructure, applications and productivity tools into a single system. This new unit will include appliance systems for Apache Hadoop, HP Vertica, SAP HANA and HP CloudSystem.

Tom Joyce, senior vice president and general manager, Converged Systems, has been tapped by Whitman to run this new organization. Joyce was formerly vice president, Marketing, Strategy and Operations, Storage, HP.

Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and GM of HP Enterprise Group, said the company continues to be at the forefront of the data centre evolution, accelerating the pace of innovation for our customers. HP was the first to announce Converged Infrastructure, which each major technology company has since followed. Today’s organizational updates are the next logical step as we accelerate the delivery of game-changing converged systems technology.

HP also announced that it will align its two server businesses under a single leader to increase the speed of transformation of the server industry and drive profitable growth. This business will be led by Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager, HP Servers. Potter currently leads HP Industry Standard Servers (ISS).

The combination of the HP Business Critical Systems (BCS) and HP ISS groups will create a $14 billion organization, based on FY2012 stated revenues.

The combined business will include HP Moonshot, HP ProLiant servers, HP BladeSystem, and HP Integrity platform.
