Almost forgotten in the split up between HP Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise is the 3Par storage solutions. 3Par in Canada has superseded expectations since HP would the bidding war to obtain 3Par back in late 2010 for close to $2.5 billion.
Today, HPE’s 3Par unit released a series of StoreServ Storage products in an attempt to push the all-flash data centre trend in the marketplace.
IDC recently said the impact flash-based array will have on the data centre is “undeniable” as more flash platforms begin to deliver enterprise-grade data services that include snapshots, clones, encryption, replication and quality of service (QOS).
HPE believes trends such as IT-as-a-Service and data analytics are driving the increased adoption of flash storage. The company is also positioning these products in the channel as a way for legacy storage customers to migrate t flash.
The company has also integrated 3Par StoreServ with the StoreOnce and StoreEver product lines to further this trend in the market.
The new series of 3Par StoreServ products include Flash Acceleration for Oracle, Online Import software, support for 3D NAND drives, StoreServ 8200 Converged File and Block Starter Kit, a refreshed StoreEver line with newer LTO-7 and an upgraded StoreOnce data protection system. StoreOnce is priced at under 5 cents per usable GB of logical capacity. It also supports Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, Veeam, and Veritas.
Starting price is $19,000.
Manish Goel, senior vice president and GM of HPE storage, said when faced with the need for agility, organizations want to take advantage of game changers like flash without introducing risk.
For customers who are working towards an all-flash data centre the new 3Par StoreServ products accommodate new and mixed media types in the same way array while maintaining resiliency.
3D NAND SSDs are available near Christmas at just over $2,000 per drive and capacity points starting at 400GBs.
The 3Par StoreServ 8200 Converged File and Block Starter kit opens up at slightly more than $36,000.
The StoreEver LTO-7 starts at just under $5,000 for an internal tape drive.
