It looks like Big Blue is stepping up development in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
IBM has announced the opening of what it is calling a Bluemix Garage at Ryerson University in downtown Toronto.
Launched today at the university’s incubator and coworking space called DMZ, the Garage is meant to help businesses more quickly develop cloud applications on IBM’s Bluemix platform.
“The Bluemix Garages create a bridge between the scale of enterprises and the culture of startups, by establishing physical collaboration spaces housed in the heart of thriving entrepreneurial communities around the world,” IBM said in a statement.
IBM invested heavily in the Bluemix platform with major updates in 2014 in an attempt to appeal to startup developers. Since then the company opened three garages, in San Francisco, London, and now Toronto.
The Cloud Foundry development platform includes a catalogue currently of over 100 first and third party open source tools and services, according to IBM.
Its first Canadian application, an app from Toronto startup ThinkData Works which pulls public data from all levels of government in Canada into a searchable directory, was only unveiled in May this year.
Big Blue named Tangerine Bank as among the members of the Toronto Bluemix Garage. The company said it would be opening more locations in Nice, France and Melbourne, Australia this year.
