IBM to bring U.S. security vendor to Canadian market

Greenview Data wants to increase its overall market and channel presence, as soon as possible, executive says

Greenview Data Inc., a U.S.-based e-mail security and filtering solutions and software vendor, is striving to increase its channel and market presence in Canada with the help of IBM of Canada and its partners.

The company, which was founded in 1980, is privately held and is based in Ann Arbor, Mich. Two of Greenview Data’s flagship products include its SpamStopsHere software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, in addition to its cloud-based RestorEmail archiving solution.

The nature of these cloud-based offerings enables Greenview Data to be a global player, said Ted Green, the company’s president.

“About 10 to 15 per cent of our overall business comes from Canada,” Green said. “In Canada, we sell through IBM, who is a reseller of our product. “I’d expect business in Canada to maybe increase in the area of five per cent in the next year.”

Currently, the company conducts business through a combination of direct sales and through a group of resellers. What’s attractive to customers is they don’t have to purchase any additional hardware or software, he explains.

Joel Abramson, vice-president of business development at Greenview, says around 40 to 50 per cent of the company’s overall revenues comes from channel partners, which includes resellers and consultants.

In total, the company has between 200 to 250 channel partners, with about 20 to 25 Canadian reseller partners, he explains. The company hopes to further expand its market reach and presence through its reseller partnership with IBM and its partner community.

Greenview’s SpamStopHere solution is a hosted e-mail filtering platform that helps to eliminate spam. The company claims SpamStopsHere can eliminate spam by blocking 99 per cent of junk e-mails. The solution also offers users optional anti-virus protection to help scan e-mails for viruses and other malicious files.

Most recently, the company launched its RestorEmail hosted e-mail archiving solution, Ted Annis, marketing director at Greenview, said. The solution is available in two editions which include its E-mail Archiving Edition and Business Continuity Edition. With the Business Continuity Edition, e-mails are archived for 30 days and the solution even allows users to send out and receive e-mails, even if the server goes down.

“RestorEmail is designed for any sized business,” Annis said. “It’s popular with medical groups and law firms, although we’re really across all industries across the board.”

The company has data centres located in the U.S., as well as two data centres in Toronto and Montreal for its Canadian and security-conscious customers, Green said.

Partners can also take advantage of an exclusive 30 per cent discount off of the solution’s retail price through the company’s Partner Connect channel program, Annis explains.

“We have a tiered pricing system so the more you purchase, the less you pay, with no monthly minimums or contracts,” he added. “We offer a yearly discount as well where customers get 12 months (of our solution) for the price of 10 months.”

Over the next few months, the company is looking to aggressively increase its overall presence and channel base in Canada.

“We want to get this as high as it’ll go and as soon as possible,” Abramson said. “We’ve picked up quite a few partners and with IBM of Canada being one of our larger clients, we’re able to work through their channels to bring in more customers.”
