Kaspersky launches the KOSS suite

Internet security vendor, Kaspersky Lab, has released its Kaspersky Open Space Security (KOSS) Release 2 software suite to address the end-point security needs of enterprises, remote office and home office users.

The suite is comprised of Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0 Release 2 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Fileservers 6.0 Release 2. Kaspersky executives say the new KOSS suite is an opportunity for channel partners to get back in touch and have conversations with their existing customers.

Peter Beardmore, senior product marketing manager for Kaspersky Americas, said KOSS Release 2 was designed to focus on four key areas in protection, performance, management and deployment to provide a better end-user experience and better end-point protection.

“KOSS is a great opportunity for our partners to re-engage with their existing customers because Release 2 is intended to simplify, streamline and significantly reduce the installation and deployment process,” Beardmore explained.

Adam Tanner, director of IT security at Oakville, Ont.-based Nexx Generation Security Solutions Inc., a managed service provider and also a Kaspersky business partner, said KOSS Release 2 is a solution that opens up many market opportunities.

“We see lots of opportunities in the small to medium-sized business (SMB) space and even some in the larger enterprise,” Tanner said. “The technology in KOSS is solid and the support we get from Kaspersky is top notch. We’re focused on the healthcare, municipal, law enforcement and educational verticals and that’s doing well for us because we’re IT security focused and we focus only on a handful of products.”

KOSS Release 2 is available as a free upgrade to existing KOSS customers. End-users who are new to KOSS can purchase the suite from Kaspersky business partners at a minimum price point of $60 per user, Beardmore said.

The Administration Kit 8.0 portion of the suite is a management console that provides IT administrators with better visibility and control over the corporate network. The new release features a new interface and dashboards and also comes with over 40 new features, Kaspersky says.

The anti-virus feature for Windows workstations provides malware detection and is also compatible with Microsoft Windows 7. In addition, the anti-virus capability for Windows Fileservers enables proactive and reactive protection for servers.

Beardmore said some of the new enhancements to KOSS include an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), enhanced dashboards that show real-time status and updates, and more. The solution works well across business of many sizes including enterprises, remote offices and small and home office users.
