Greg Myers stay on the unemployment line did not last long. Lenovo confirmed via Twitter that Myers, the former senior vice president of sales and marketing at Tech Data Canada will be its new Canadian channel chief replacing the promoted Stefan Bockhop, who is now running the data centre business for the hardware vendor.
Myers told CDN, in an exclusive interview, that he retired from Tech Data and distribution but not the entire industry.
The 35-year veteran worked at Tech Data Canada for close to two decades and decided to depart the company after the successful integration of Avnet Technology Solutions.
He said, at that time, he felt fortunate to be a part of the organization for so long.
By going to Lenovo Canada, Myers is sort of returning to his roots in the PC market. Myers started his career in the channel at Packard Bell/NEC. Packard Bell/NEC stopped selling its hardware in Canada and the U.S. in 2000 to focus strictly in Western Europe and Asia Pac. Then in 2008 it was acquired by Acer, who retired the brand that same year.
What makes Myers a highly attractive executive is his experience is in all sectors of the channel as he has worked at solution provider organizations, vendors, and in distribution.
Myers joins Lenovo at a time when the company is branching out into many other solution areas such as its new ThinkCentre tower-based desktop being combined with Oculus-Ready technology to deliver a professional virtual reality experience.
Also, the company has made a huge push in the data centre market with an extensive end-to-end data centre portfolio released to capture what the company calls the “intelligence revolution” market.
In 2017, Lenovo has made a strong effort to go after new market opportunities such as digital transformation, big data, high-performance computing, hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Myers has experience in these areas as he was part of the team that launched the Tech Data Advanced Technologies Centre in Toronto along with new configuration services for the channel.
