ORLANDO – At its Accelerate 2014 Partner conference, Lenovo introduced two new Think branded models specifically built for business.
The ThinkPad 10 is a ten-inch tablet made with aluminum and Corning Gorilla glass featuring an HD display screen and four flexible operating modes:
- Tablet;
- Stand;
- Laptop; and
- Desktop.
The unit connects to an optional ThinkPad Tablet Dock or USB 3.0 docking station where a user can add large format display, mouse, and Bluetooth-enabled keyboard.
With the ThinkPad 10, Lenovo has developed a smart cover which they call a QuickShot Cover that can snap photos with just a flip of the cover. It comes standard with an eight mega-pixel camera. The camera app launches automatically when the cover is flipped.
The new ThinkPad includes Pen, voice, mobility and sensor technologies so that it can constantly monitor itself. “The PC will be more alive and can sense what you are doing; similar to the backlit keyboard that comes on when you approach it,” said Dilip Bhatia, vice president of ThinkPad product marketing.
Another business feature of the ThinkPad 10 is that it will be able to use legacy Windows programs and files and have 3G and 4G wireless capability.
Bhatia added that the company is trying to make a statement with the launch of these two products that the desktop PC is alive and well.
According to figures from Bhatia, the PC/notebook market is worth more than $200 billion this year and the segment shipped more than 300 million units in the marketplace already in 2014.
“The PC will evolve and it’s not going anywhere,” he said.
The ThinkPad 10 also comes with 4GB of memory up to 128GB of storage and ten hours of battery life.
The second product is the ThinkStation P300 workstation, which has been re-designed as an entry-level model with new chassis that does away with the bulky handle instead you get red touch points and extended lip in the front and the back for carrying and deployment.
In addition, there is a new Flex module that gives the channel the option to add only the components their customers want. The Flex module supports a combination of an ultra-slim optical drive, 29-in-1 media card reader, IEEE 1394 Firewire, and eSATA.
The ThinkStation P300 is available with Intel Xeon E3-1200v3 product line as well as new 4th Generation ore processor and ECC memory support for improved productivity and reliability.
These two units will give the channel warranty extensions, upgrades, accidental damage protection, and priority technical support.
The ThinkPad 10 starts at $599 and will be available in June. The Lenovo ThinkStation P300 starts at $729 and will be available in tower and Small Form Factor models also in June.
