Sharon Gaudin of ComputerWorld reports that Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop, unveiled in May, will begin shipping later this month.
“Light, portable and fast charging, this is Lenovo’s halo product,” said Rob Enderle, an analyst with the Enderle Group. “It is a showcase of what the company is capable of. It is kind of an anti-tablet, targeted at people who want the portability of a tablet but still need a notebook computer.”

Gee, don’t set the bar too low there, Enderle. While it would be nice to see a vendor do something to shape up what seems like a rather staid and stagnant PC market, whether the $1,299 X1 will do it remains to be seen.
The knock on the failure to launch of the ultrabook category to date has been pricepoint, and this one is definitely on the high end.
It looks cool, though.
