As part of its regular patch release cycle, Microsoft on Tuesday issued alerts on the following security bulletins:
MS08-052 (Maximum severity of Critical): This update resolves five privately reported vulnerabilities in MicrosoftWindows, which could allow remote code execution if a user viewed a specially crafted image file using affected software.
MS08-053 (Maximum severity of Critical): This update resolves one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, which could allow remote code execution if a user viewed a specially crafted Web page, allowing an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability to take complete control of an affected system.
MS08-054 (Maximum severity of Critical): This update resolves one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, which could allow remote code execution when a specially crafted audio file is streamed from a Windows Media server allowing an attacker to take complete control of an affected system.
MS08-055 (Maximum severity of Critical): This update resolves one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Office, which could allow remote code execution if a user clicks a specially crafted OneNote URL, giving full access to an attacker who could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
