While Microsoft Corp. is beginning to find a market for tablet devices running its full Windows 8 OS, most sales figures show lacklustre results for the light-weight, apps-only version of Windows intended for low-powered tablets: Windows RT.
The vendor may be preparing to address those slow sales and give Windows RT a second chance in the market. According to a report from Bloomberg News, Microsoft is preparing to slash prices on Windows RT. The hope is that more consumers would be interested in a Windows RT-based tablet at a lower price, and that more hardware vendors would invest in the platform if they see a bigger market demand.
To date, the major hardware vendors have been lukewarm on Windows RT. Some, such as HP and Acer, have taken a pass, while even Microsoft’s own Windows RT Surface tablet has underperformed.
