NEC unit announces new telephony platform

RENO, Nev.–NEC Unified Solutions Inc., a provider of VoIP and data communications, today announced its UNIVERGE OW5000 platform, for developers in NEC’s UNIVERGE Solutions Partner Program, to assist with the development of customized applications and business solutions. The OW5000 application platform actively promotes interoperability with NEC products and systems, allowing partners to develop and integrate with third-party applications.

The OW5000 application platform is a core component of NEC’s VoIP and developer strategy, providing support for existing networks and simplifying application development and deployment. The platform supports Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) development with web services for converged voice and data networks, and contains open application programming interfaces developers can use to integrate NEC’s UNIVERGE SV7000, SV7000 Multiple Purpose System and NEAX IPS Controller IP telephony servers with their applications.

“Today’s landscape is changing and we see customers who want to extend the applications from the desk phone to a PC and even to a mobile device,” said Paul Lopez, general manager, marketing and services at NEC Unified Solutions. “By providing application interoperability with the OW5000 platform, we are demonstrating our commitment to VoIP industry standards, and offering our customers the ability to customize applications to meet their business needs.”

The OW5000 platform’s open API allows organizations to integrate Microsoft’s Live Communication Server 2005 with any NEC UNIVERGE SV7000, SV7000 Multi-purpose System (MPS) and IPX IP telephony server. It also includes a variety of application services and programming interfaces that provide tools to support advanced application development.
