Both storage and data networking vendor NetApp and security solutions vendor Kaspersky Lab made product announcements last week around virtualization vendor Citrix Systems’ annual Synergy user conference.

NetApp announced new integrated solutions netween its NetApp Clustered Data OnTap software and Citrix solutions for desktop and application virtualization, mobile collaboration and cloud services.

According to NetApp, mobile workstyles and the cloud are changing both businesses and IT architecture. Data needs to always be available, which is why it’s collaborating with Citrix on new technologies that enable non-disruptive operations and increase storage efficiency throughout a Citrix environment.

“NetApp and Citrix share a vision to provide a simple, easy-to-deploy architecture for transitioning enterprises to private and hybrid clouds, said Patrick Rogers, vice-president of data centre platforms for NetApp, in a statement. “We’re looking to transform the role of IT in organizations through technologies such as clustered Data OnTap, which enable an efficient, flexible, and non-disruptive storage platform. With (this) announcement, organizations can now support the increasingly mobile workforce with a cloud-ready infrastructure.”

Kaspersky also used Synergy to announce the future availability of a virtualization security product designed specifically for Citrix environments. Launching in the fall, Kaspersky Security for Virtualization-Light Agent is optimized specifically for Citrix XenServer and Citrix XenDesktop and is designed to reduce the consumption of system resources by offloading security functions to the hypervisor layer.

“Over the last several years, we’ve watched the demand for virtualization grow worldwide, and cybercriminals will always follow the money by exploiting the latest technologies,” said Nikolay Grebennikov, CTO for Kaspersky Lab, in a statement. “Kaspersky Lab anticipated this demand and produced a virtualization security product that not only beat many leading vendors to market, but also delivers smoother performance and easier installation.”
