Wired
Jose Fermoso writes about Panasonic’s new IP-enabled line of Viera TVs.
“‘The quality is still the best for large screen viewing, today and for the next few years,’ said Bob Perry, Sr. VP for Panasonic’s Display Products group, not taking into account the fact that people are choosing cheaper LCDs in much larger numbers. The 50-inch and 64.7-inch PZ850 TVs come with Viera Cast tech previewed earlier this year and streams Internet content directly to the TV, bypassing the PC or an extra box. The price is also huge: $7,000 and $4000, respectively.”

“Dell has been partial to software as a service. Dell has to find some software and services strategy as rivals such as IBM and HP, now bulked up by EDS, increasingly lump software, services and hardware into a joint sell. As for Salesforce.com a purchase by Dell would give it more clout in those large accounts it is increasingly chasing. In other words, a Dell-Salesforce.com merger…could work.”
