New Software AG boss outlines channel plans

German business process management (BPM) vendor just appointed a new leader for its Canadian operations. In his role as vice-president and general manager, Scott Camarotti said the plans he will develop and execute to push Software AG’s portfolio of products and services to market will include channel partners.

Through an industry focused strategy, Camarotti said sectors of continued interest include finance and insurance, oil and gas, retail and manufacturing supply chain, utilities and public sector. In particular, the Canadian government’s health care spend presents a significant area of opportunity for the company, said Camarotti.

“So, that’s an area where we have some very successful use cases and solutions that we’ve built for our customers throughout Canada and throughout the world,” said Camarotti.

The channel partner ecosystem, too, will continue to play a role where Software AG will build upon those relationships and provide system integrators visibility and tools to develop technologies on the company’s BPM stack.

While Software AG is known in the Canadian market, its visibility could be better. To that end, Camarotti said a vertical focus, again, will help raise awareness among existing customers and prospects.

“It’s a key area of focus for us,” said Camarotti. “We realize the Software AG brand in Canada could improve.”

Nigel Wallis, research director for application solutions with Toronto-based IDC Canada Ltd., said BPM adoption in Canada is primarily by large organizations that toil in industries dealing with complex, high-volume data transactions. Besides Software AG’s acquisition of WebMethods and IDS Scheer, other technology companies have been active in the BPM space, said Wallis. For instance, Waterloo-based OpenText Corp. bought Global 360 Inc. just in July of this year.Software AG Canada has offices in Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton.
