The Canadian smartphone market got a little more crowded Thursday, with ZTE announcing that its Grand X smartphone is now available from major Canadian carriers for the first time.
A Chinese-based company, ZTE is a global smartphone vendor and has had success in the pre-paid market, but this is its first deal with a major Canadian carrier. Its new Grand X is now available with Bell and Virgin Mobile.
“The Grand X continues our commitment to providing affordable premium electronics to Canadians,” said Denson Xu, CEO of ZTE Canada, in a state, emt. “This smartphone has all the features consumers want, at the price they need. The Grand X proves that you don’t have to pay a lot to get a lot.”
The Grand X features a 2400mAh battery for up to seven hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby, and a 5.0” HD LCD screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 to watch movies and play games in 720p HD. There are two cameras – a 5MP rear camera with 4x zoom and LED flash and a 1MP front camera – and Immersive SRS TruMedia sound.
The smartphone runs the Android 4.3 OS and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2 GHz Quad-Core.
Aimed at the budget market, the ZTE Grand X is available now in stores and online with Bell and Virgin Mobile for $149.99 without a contract.
The body of the phone shown seems to be a rip off of a samsung galaxy s3 – though a mirror image of it.
I’m not sure if I would go for a Chinese brand phone if I was phone hunting. Maybe someone on a low budget would.
@gisbun:disqus, I bet you know that most of iphones are OEM’ed out of China.
