Red Hat has announced that nominations are open for the 2016 Women in Open Source Awards.
This is the second year that the software company has put on the award, which recognizes women making significant contributions to open source, either through development, in creative use, or through various communities.
As with last year, nominations are taken in two different categories, namely Academic for full-time students enrolled in college or university, and Community, for women who work or volunteer on projects related to open source software.
Winners are announced at the Red Hat Summit in June 2016, held in San Francisco, where they will be recognized and invited to speak, as well as receive a $2,500 stipend.
Nominees can have experience in any of the following areas:
- Coding and programming
- Community advocacy and management
- Design, artwork, user-experience (UX), and marketing
- Documentation, tutorials, and other types of communications
- Intellectual property advocacy and legal reform
- Involvement in open hardware
- Open content
- Open source methodology
- Quality assurance, bug triage, and other quality-related contributions
- System administration and infrastructure
- Translation and other internationalization contributions
Nominations will be accepted until Nov. 30, 2015. Anyone who currently identifies as a woman can apply. Winners are chosen by public vote.
