Nutanix plans to beef up its Enterprise Cloud Platform offering through the strategic acquisition of two companies. Nutanix completed the acquisition of Calm.io and has executed a definitive agreement to acquire PernixData.
Calm.io plays in the DevOps automation space, so Nutanix’s acquisition of the company will add new cloud automation and management capabilities to the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform.
“We have shared a similar vision as Nutanix since day one — data centre infrastructure must be fully automated, simple to deploy and easy-to-use,” said Aaditya Sood, founder and CEO of Calm.io, in a statement.
The acquisition of PernixData, which is subject to customary closing conditions, will add new scale-out data acceleration and analytics capabilities to the Nutanix’s cloud offering. With PernixData on board, Nutanix plans to develop an advanced data stack to replace traditional storage silos and high-latency networks. The expected result is new storage-class memory and advanced interconnects.
“PernixData software has helped hundreds of customers virtualize their applications without compromising performance and visibility,” said Poojan Kumar, CEO and co-founder of PernixData, in a statement.
In its announcement, Nutanix highlighted the commonalities — mostly in philosophies and software-driven approaches — between its team and the Calm.io and PernixData organizations.
“Over the last four years, Pernix has built very strong scale-out data acceleration technologies. More importantly, they ‘see’ every IO without compromising on data consistency. That gives us a unique vantage point to pull off online application migration, with the one-click delight that Nutanix has always stood for,” wrote Sunil Potti, chief product and development officer at Nutanix, in a blog post.
As for Calm.io, Potti praised the company’s single pane of glass that aids in the design and orchestration of applications across Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Docker containers and on-premise web-scale infrastructure.
“PernixData and Calm.io both have exceptional technology, solid engineering teams, and visionary leaders with the ‘Founder’s Mentality’; they have dreamt big and persevered against great odds to build phenomenal products,” said Dheeraj Pandey, founder, CEO and chairman of Nutanix, in a statement. “We are honoured to welcome them into the Nutanix family, and build the next generation of innovative products and truly helping our customers realize the vision of the Enterprise Cloud.”
