Paget leaves Synnex

John Paget, president of Synnex Corp.‘s technology solutions division, is leaving the distributor to pursue other career opportunities.

“We appreciate John’s many contributions to Synnex and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Robert T. Huang, company president and chief executive officer, said in a news release.

“The technology solutions division (TDS) remains a meaningful component of our growth strategy and we are confident that the current momentum and growth of TSD will continue due to the experienced management team and foundation already in place.”

Huang said Synnex Canada chief Jim Estill and U.S. distribution president Peter Larocque will split responsibilities for the division, which accounts for roughly $300 million a quarter in revenue.

In a Friday afternoon interview, Estill said he will head TSD’s Canadian-based unit, which focuses on bar code solutions, while Larocque will head TSD’s South Carolina-based unit, which largely looks after telephony solutions.

“I’ve worked with Peter for the last two and a half years and we work well together,” he said, “so I think it will work out well.”

“We don’t have to make any bold moves, the division is up and running, and largely the people on the line keep doing what they always do. In the medium term we’ll continue to add resources and grow that area. I’ve actually been fairly involved in it anyway, so I’m really quite ramped and up to speed.”

The move is not an interim one, he said, saying “we’re not actively looking for anyone to lead the division.”

“As far as my background goes, it lends itself very well towards leading that type of division because I ran a value-added distributor for years – EMJ (Data Systems) – and we were the largest bar code distributor in Canada.”

The departure of Paget was “somewhat of a surprise,” Estill said. Although he believes he knows where the former Synnex executive is going, he didn’t think he should be the one to disclose it

Paget came to Synnex in 2004 as president of North America and chief operating officer of the corporation. He previously held the position of senior vice-president and general manager of GE Technology Financial Services, a part of GE Commercial Finance.

Before that he’d been president and chief executive officer of GE Access, a worldwide distributor of Unix products. Prior to GE Access, Paget was president and CEO of CIC Systems, one of the largest Sun VAR’s in the Northeast U.S.

He’s held management-level positions in services, sales and marketing operations with many manufacturers, including Compaq Computer Corp., Digital Equipment Corp. and Xerox Corp.
