Rik Myslewski shares details about Qualcomm’s $65 million purchase of AMD’s handheld business.

“In a joint statement, Qualcomm and AMD said that the acquisition of ‘certain graphics and multimedia technology assets, intellectual property and resources that were formerly the basis of AMD’s handheld business’ will strengthen Qualcomm’s ‘leadership position in delivering more advanced products that redefine next-generation mobile user experiences.’ The deal includes Qualcomm offering jobs to personnel from AMD’s graphics group, who may very well be relieved to be exiting a company that recently announced further job cuts and wage reductions.”

“ Big-name SaaS companies like Salesforce.com (CRM, down 12.12 per cent year to date) and RightNow (RNOW, down 15.14 per cent) remain under pressure on Wall Street because investors are worried about the ‘cost’ of acquiring and retaining new customers. Despite continued weakness in our SaaS 20 Stock Index, there’s no doubt SaaS is catching on with managed service providers. Nearly 60 per cent of MSPs currently offer hosted/SaaS e-mail, while 18.4 per cent say they offer customers some form of hosted/SaaS CRM, according to the annual MSPmentor 100 survey – produced by The VAR Guy’s sister site.”
