Change is in the air at storage vendor Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Canada with three new faces moving into the executive suite, including a new subsidiary head to replace long-time Canadian leader Barry Morrison.
In an announcement dated last week, HDS announced the appointment of Marcel Escorcio as the new regional vice-president and general manager of HDS Canada. He replaces Morrison, who CDN has learned has moved on to a global role within HDS as vice-president of global accounts.
In two other key executive moves, Paul Lewis was appointed chief technology officer and Peter Tassopoulos was named the new district manager for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
According to HDS, Escorcio joined the company 24 years ago as a customer service representative, and steadily rose through the sales and management ranks. For the last five years, he has ran the GTA business for HDS. In a statement, he said the channel will be important to the vendor’s success going forward.
“Our biggest challenge is getting more people to know about us. We’ve got a great team and solution set,” said Escorcio, in a statement. “The channel is a big part of our business. Our channel partners bring a lot of value in certain areas. We need to continue to enable them, educate them, and put them in a position of success.”
HighVail Systems is a longtime HDS partner in Toronto, and HighVail president and CEO Bradley Brodkin told CDN these are good moves for HDS. Brodkin said he has worked with Escorcio for nearly 15 years, back when he was a sales rep and later as district manager.
“We in the field have a good relationship with (Escorcio),” said Brodkin.
While Escorcio is an HDS veteran, Lewis is a newcomer, but not a stranger with HDS. He was most recently CTO for a financial services company that was a client of HDS. And Tassopoulos, who replaces Escorcio in the GTA role, joined HDS Canada in 2008.
