The next-generation iPhone could launch in July or August, according to the latest speculation.
The Macotakara website reports that an anonymous source has revealed that the iPhone 5 will be largely similar to the iPhone 4 in design, though will have an 8-megapixel digital camera and will not use a conventional SIM card.
Instead, the iPhone 5 will use an embedded SIM, according to the report. This would appear to contradict statements made earlier this month by Orange’s CEO Stephane Richard that the networks had managed to talk Apple out of using an embedded SIM, instead opting to go with a smaller and thinner removable SIM.
The new iPhone will use an ARM Cortex-A9 processor, though the report didn’t state whether it would be a dual- or single-core chip. It will also be compatible with both GSM and CDMA networks.
While the report suggests that the next-generation iPhone is little more than an incremental upgrade, it does also mention another significant iPhone launch in the spring of 2012. While this isn’t the first speculation we’ve heard about the iPhone 6, it further strengthens the theory that any iPhone launch in 2011 will be a stop-gap.
