Tech Data Canada announces mobile app development services

Wendy Franklin, director of mobility and retail at Tech Data Canada.

Tech Data Canada has announced a new distribution agreement with InnoviMobile to bring app development to its partners.

The services, now available to Canadian solution providers, are supported by Tech Data Canada’s Mobility and Retail Division.

“This is a brand-new partnership for us,” said Wendy Franklin, director of mobility and retail solutions at Tech Data Canada. She explained that prior to this partnership, the company did not have any sort of app-building service offering.

InnoviMobile will sell two main services through Tech Data Canada as flat fee SKUs, aimed at app development for smartphones, tablets, and wearable or IoT devices.

These include “Innovi Apps”, which consist of services including app development, user interface design, project management, backend server integration and development, and maintenance, and “Innovi OnDemand”, a subscription-type service that gives access to mobile developer resources.

Plans for the latter start at three days per month and go all the way up to 20 days per month.  This is designed for customers “who already have custom mobile apps and would like a partner to handle maintenance or who would like to develop a mobile app over time,” Tech Data said in a statement.

Those who want assistance building an app, however, are able to bring a statement of work to InnoviMobile, which will then turn to planning discussions to identify the needs of the end user.

Additional services to help customers get started also include “Innovi Start”, a starter app development package that includes a needs analysis and a working prototype, as well as “Innovi Cloud”, hosting services (in a private cloud hosted in a SSAE-16 certified data centre with integrated backup and disaster recovery) used with apps that require cloud data storage.

While the services are currently not integrated with Tech Data’s enterprise mobility management offering – due to differences in billing structures – resellers can bundle the offering with smartphone or tablet sales.

Franklin said she envisions targeting ISVs and resellers marketing EMM and MDM software solutions, customers in security, managed services and data centre hosting, as well as retail/POS, healthcare and financial sectors.
