PINpoint provides an easy, up-to-date, easy-to-access emergency list of corporate contacts as well as evacuation plans, and procedures, directly to the BlackBerry smartphones. All information is current and now we have reliable back-up communications on our existing BlackBerry deployment without increasing workload or costs. OSFI decided to maximize the value of their BlackBerry smartphone deployment by enabling their devices to act as emergency communication devices using PIN-to-PIN communications – even during a crisis or even a power failure. PINpoint was there to ensure messages were delivered – accurately. “PINpoint periodically collects documents and contact lists from our corporate systems, and pushes them to our designated BlackBerry devices, allowing our users to have access to this critical information in emergency situations.

Describe what makes this Solution, Service Provided, or Initiative original or innovative?

In the event of a service interruption or disaster, even a power failure, OSFI wanted to help employees communicate using PIN-to-PIN services on their BlackBerry smartphones. They needed and easily assessable directory of contact information (PIN numbers) to make this happen in a crisis situation. If the regular email was down, using PIN numbers circumvents the need to go through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The challenge for the IT group was it had no way to easily record or keep track of PIN numbers for the employees. “PINpoint periodically collects documents and contact lists from our corporate systems, and pushes them to our designated BlackBerry devices, allowing our users to have access to this critical information in emergency situations. Since deploying PINpoint to have continuous availability and disaster recovery for our BlackBerry estate – we can now ensure any mission critical communication is always available. It protects us in case we do lose power to our email infrastructure. PINpoint is our safety net!”

Describe the improvement this Solution, Service Provided, or Initiative made to the customer’s efficiency. What changed?

I.T. Administrator to define what information will be made available, to whom, and when. This saves us a lot of time and effort, not to mention internal I.T. resources. Tenet provided the PINpoint solution, RIM provided us with the BlackBerry smartphones and we were able to have a complete Emergency Management application for our entire staff in case of an emergency. PINpoint was very easy to install in our secure environment – and the users cannot get over how easy it is to use. Our entire staff now know they have a way to communicate in the event of a disaster. We can all breathe easier with PINpoint deployed.”

How did this Solution, Service provided, or Initiative improve the customer’s ability to serve its internal and/or external clients?

The PINpoint application reduces the time the IT team has to spend updating and trying to maintain accurate PIN lists– we now rely on PINpoint to be our Business Continuity Application. Now we have a reliable solution in case we lose power – we are still connected with PINpoint deployed.” With PINpoint we now have critical contact information at our fingertips. We can connect with anyone in our organization with literally just two clicks. We can communicate with accurate contact information even when our systems are down.

In what ways does this Solution or Service Provided go above and beyond industry norms and expectations?

The Government now has a Business Continuity Solution we can rely on in case of an emergency or power failure – to have the ability to communicate with key members in a crisis situation. Our staff are pushed a list of current BlackBerry Smartphone communication paths: email address, PIN and telephone # as well as Emergency Plans, Community Contacts and Evacuation Plans. The application ensures critical contact information is automatically updated and always current. Back-up Communications Plan for an Emergency – No need to scramble to find a PIN # Easy deployment and instant TCO Reduced IT effort – Now numbers are up-to-date and accessible to the users – without having to assign an IT person. No need to rely on the human element to maintain the PIN “lists” – and in the unfortunate event that the email system goes down, employees are no longer on their own. With PINpoint this is now an indispensable tool for effective emergency communications. The challenge was keeping up with the ever-changing landscape if personnel and devices for the organization. PINpoint offers a way to ensure emergency contact information, evacuation procedures and floor plans are automatically refreshed and pushed to the BlackBerry® smartphones when changes are made – without the need for daily IT management. PINpoint is a very focused application – the more focused something is going to be, the better it’s going to work.

How does this solution further your customer’s green or environmentally friendly plans?

Now having PINpoint deployed in various Government agencies, Health Care facilities, Legal and Corporate accounts… the need for plans in binders are now all stored in the devices to avoid printing new plans, distributions lists etc… PINpoint for BlackBerry – Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery Plans for BlackBerry deployments – Doing More with Less and STAYING GREEN.
