There’s a new security vendor in town, and it’s headed by a former Canadian and UK intelligence expert.
Darktrace, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Cambridge, UK, opened offices in Auckland, New Zealand, London, Milan, Mumbai, Paris, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, and Washington D.C. before venturing to Toronto.
At its head is David Masson, who spent half of the previous decade as a senior manager at Public Safety Canada and the other half before that at the UK Ministry of Defence.
Darktrace’s technology, meanwhile is based on machine learning and was developed at the University of Cambridge. The company says that it is able to understand “normal” network behaviour and looks for subtle changes in activity to detect intrusions rather than relying on rules and signatures.
“Darktrace has been working with Canadian companies since our inception, but we are excited to now have an on-the-ground presence,” Masson, who has been Canada country manager since January, said in a statement.
