Toronto’s Masonic Temple goes from Jersey Shore to big data

Toronto’s Masonic Temple no longer wants its MTV. Now it wants its IT research and statistics.

The historic downtown Toronto building at Yonge and Davensport was originally  built as a Masonic Temple in 1916, later becoming a venue for rock concerts in the late 1960s. It was later sold to CTV where it hosted Open Mike with Mike Bullard, CTV News and, most recently MTV Canada.

Now, though, talk in the building will shift from The Jersey Shore and The Hills to cloud computing and big data.

According to The Toronto Star, London, Ont-based IT research and consulting form Info-Tech Research Group has bought the historic building, and plans to use it for its Toronto office space. Info-Tech president and CEO Joel McLean said the company plans to make no major changes to the space as it transforms it to house offices.

The historic nature of the building will be preserved and so will the concert stage, which will play host to an annual charity fundraiser.

Info-Tech paid $12.5 million for the space.
