Video: Samsung brings the Reclaim to Canada

Samsung Canada used Toronto International Film Festival hotspot the Nikki Beach Lounge to launch the Samsung Reclaim, the vendor’s newest entry in the burgeoning messaging phone arena.

Messaging phones are devices that are built primarily around text messaging, and include either a hard or soft qwerty keyboard. Unlike a smartphone, a messaging phone doesn’t include an operating system and so can’t run additional applications other than those pre-loaded. It sells at a lower price-point than smartphones, aimed at teens that don’t use the extra features of a smartphone.

The Reclaim, available exclusively through Bell Canada, is made from 80 per cent recycled materials and features a slide-out qwerty keyboard, a two megapixel camera and GPS capability. It’s available for $49.95 on a three-year Bell Mobility contract, or $219.95 without a contract. It’s available now.

Samsung also gave a sneak preview of three additional phones it will be bringing to the Canadian market in the fourth quarter.
