Visual solutions vendor ViewSonic Corp. has announced its lineup of Smart Client solutions, including new Thin Client and Zero Client product offerings for remote desktop access.
“It’s no secret that the desktop computing space is shrinking. As people turn to smartphones and tablets for a mobile experience, ViewSonic remains focused on evolving our desktop architecture to meet our customers’ needs. Leveraging our display and computing expertise, today we revitalize the virtualized desktop” said Jeff Volpe, president, ViewSonic Americas, in a statement.
ViewSonic’s Thin Client and Zero Client feature a 0.6L design with space saving options such as a mounting bracket for attachment to any VESA ready monitor. Both categories are optimized and certified for use within the major virtualized environments. They’re also energy efficient, consuming up to 80 per cent less energy than traditional computers.
“For the enterprise, Smart Clients mean that corporations can support the demand for BYOD along with the hosting of virtualized desktops in a leaner and easy to manage way,” said Erik Willey, LCD monitor and PC product marketing director at ViewSonic, in a statement. “The result is happier, more productive employees and more efficient operations.”
On the thin client side, the SC-T35 is a Linux based Thin Client featuring a Texas Instruments DM8148 ARM CPU and ARM Linux OS and the Windows-based SC-T45 Thin Client features an Intel Atom N2800 processor. Both are paired with ViewSonic’s Device Management (VDM) software for IT administrators.
And the new zero client is the SC-Z55, designed for enterprise class financial, healthcare and government institutions seeking a desktop experience with -high reliability and security in VMware based networks. It runs a Teradici Tera 2321 processor with hardware accelerated PCoIP support.
The SC-T35, SC-T45 and SC-Z55 will be available in early March for respective ESPs of US$199, US$379 and US$299.
